Making a Half-Truncated Cube:

How to Make a Half-Truncated Cube. v1.0:
by: Caleb Lau

Introduction:
Once again, this is quite a simple shape modification of a standard 3x3x3 cube. It was invented by Wayne Johnson of TwistyPuzzles.com.

Before we begin, I'll go over the materials I used to construct the puzzle. For the mechanism, I used a Rubik's 3x3x3. I also used some quick setting epoxy glue. As for tools, I mainly used a variable speed hand rotary tool (on low to medium speeds) and course to super-fine sandpaper.

Now that we've established that, let's begin! (Captions are below the pictures.)

Note: This is my interpretation on how to make this puzzle. There are probably better ways to make a Half-Truncated Cube, here's mine. I am not liable for any damage you do to you and/or your puzzle(s).

Cut all the edge pieces as shown. A hand rotary tool would work great for a cut like this. As always, undercut, then sand to perfection.

Cut four (4) of corner pieces as shown. A hand rotary tool would work great for a cut like this. I don't want to say it again, but I will, undercut, then sand to perfection.

Use some quick setting epoxy glue to fill all the holes in the pieces.

Once, the glue dries, assemble the puzzle and sand each side flat.

On a simple mod like this, accuracy is still important. In the picture, you see that I still need to sand down the corner piece on top.

Once all the faces are flat, dissassemble and round any sharp corners, then, paint every modified piece.

Painted.

Stickered.

Mid-twist.

Scrambled but still in shape.

Scrambled completely

In my hand.

The Half-Truncated Cube is definantly a puzzle to consider if you don't know where to start. It's a very simple build that, if done properly, can be a very interesting puzzle. Once again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Happy Cubing!
